Many prominent Maga personalities on X are based outside US, new tool reveals

Many of the most influential personalities in the “Make America great again” (Maga) movement on X are based outside of the US, including Russia, Nigeria and India, a new transparency feature on the social media site has revealed.

Surely this is new information and not well fucking known since 2016

This isn't even the well-organized, state-sponsored actors.

For example, Russian government knows how to get US IP addresses and can surely do so without using public VPNs.

Basically, this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as foreign influence campaigns go.

Either that or they simply pay off american influencers like Russia has been doing. Not that the revelation really led to anything.

Russia pays orgs like Fox News and the NRA to have Americans scared of each other and armed to the teeth.

Remember 7ish years ago when the news broke that the NRA was a front for Russian dark money into US politics and the Republican Senate's immediate response was to order an instant yes/no vote along party lines within 24 hours to prevent Robert Mueller from investigating the NRA as part of his Russia probe. And somehow that wasn't suspicious enough to lead anyone else ever looking into the matter later after Trump was gone.

The Russian govt was literally handed access to our government servers within minutes of DOGE getting into our Social Security systems.

Seeing that so many top MAGA trolls aren’t even in the U.S. is wild, but at least we can finally see where the accounts are coming from. It makes it easier to spot inauthentic activity and gives people a clearer picture of what’s real versus coordinated online chaos.
