Republican senators have been accused of “sentencing veterans to death” after they blocked the passage of a landmark bill that would finally give US service members sick and dying from toxic exposure to burn pits access to the healthcare that they need.
The bill received just 55 of the needed 60 votes to pass a cloture motion on Wednesday, with only eight Republicans voted to move forward with the bill.
A staggering 25 of those who voted against the bill had previously voted to pass it just one month earlier.
...
But – between one month and the next – dozens of Republican senators decided that they no longer supported expanding healthcare and disability access to US servicemembers and decided to change their vote.
Let nobody forget.
Republicans in 2010 FILIBUSTERED a 911 Responders Health Care bill
Cops, firefighters, paramedics were finding that they were having serious health issues 10 years later from breathing in all the toxic debris from the building collapses.
Republicans FILIBUSTERED a Health Care bill for a single cities worth of first responders because "too expensive".
Callous GOP Fist-Bump After Holding Up Aid For Burn-Pit Veterans Sparks Fury
Republican senators sparked outrage when they bumped fists after voting to hold up aid for military veterans suffering from burn-pit exposure.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was captured on video Thursday fist-bumping Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) shortly after Republicans managed to block the PACT Act, which would allow soldiers, sailors and airmen exposed to pits of smoldering waste in combat zones to be covered by the Veterans Affairs health care system for linked illnesses. Many are suffering from cancer.
Pay no attention to what they say, pay attention to what they do. In this case they did a disservice to the people who have risked life and limb for this Country. Despicable human beings, all of them.
The first and second bill were the exact same except for once sentence change and a change to the table of contents in the Bill. The sentence change did nothing to change money spent, what could be spent, etc. it only corrected a sentence which referenced the wrong federal code. If you don’t believe me, check the evolution of the bill yourself on the official Congress website:
Republicans Senators are flat out lying as to why they tanked it, after passing it in June. They know people won’t read bills for themselves and they can save face.
The real reason they didn’t pass it was because it came immediately after they found out Democrats had votes to pass a Reconciliation Bill which lowers prescription prices, funds IRS to investigate tax cheats, and invests in clean energy. It was something the Dems were acting like they couldn’t get done until after they got Rep support for the Computer Chip Manufacturing Bill.
Essentially this is throwing a fit. Congressional Republicans literally tried to tank all bills after the Manchin/Shumer deal got made. The Republicans didn’t think people would call them out, cause who pays attention to these things? However, Jon Stewart went all in and is calling them out. So now, they are all lying to save face.
I haven’t heard a response from either MO Senator. If they give that stupid talking point about things for changes and it is pork spending, IT IS A BOLDFACED LIE! Read it for yourself!
‘Burn Pit’ Bill Passes Senate After Jon Stewart Assails GOP
Legislation giving veterans exposed to toxic burn pits access to expanded health benefits passed the Senate Tuesday night amid an outcry from veterans and comedian Jon Stewart, who camped out on the Capitol steps since Republicans blocked the bill last week.
The vets, their families, and people who claim to support them should vote out all the people who were against this bill.
This is the exact same bill right? Lots of republicans on Reddit were claiming there was pork barrel money in it. Were they lying the whole time?
Yes. They invented a 400 billion dollar loophole that didn’t exist
The story of the bill being changed to add $400B in pork was not true. It was... a fabrication. Ted Cruz looked straight at the television camera and flat out lied about why he (and other Republicans) changed their vote on this bill. THEY LIED.
