Trump Threatens Tariffs On Nations That Don't Back Greenland Takeover
"I may put a tariff on countries if they don't go along with Greenland, because we need Greenland for national security," Trump said at a health roundtable at the White House.
The only countries that really bent the knee were heavily integrated with the US, countries like Japan and the EU.(or countries who's economies were relatively very small)
China was like ok whatever, India was like "50% tariffs? ok".
The thing that should be scaring us in the US is that those countries that did bend the knee are actively working on systems and relationships to never have to do that again. Trump had one card, he played it and the world has decided that never again.
Does it really matter anymore? he might also slap tariff on nation if it rains tomorrow.
Sure, make your own population pay because other countries are not ok with your imperialism bout, dingo.
It amazing that we're this far in, and so many conservatives are ok that he's still never actually articulated what a tariff is and who pays it.
Such incurious baby minded people
They still think the tariffs are paid by the country being tariffed.
They don’t realize it’s basically a tax paid for by American consumers.
It's worse even than simply not understanding the rather straight-forward effects of tariffs. It's a failure to understand how a business operates at the most basic level.
Even if tariffs were paid by the company from which the good originates, directly, in the form of a payment to the United States government before the goods could be shipped... even then, consumers would still end up paying.
Because that would just be one more cost that the producer incurred. And increases in costs are recouped by increasing prices.
Because of course they are.
