To be fair, a lot of republican voters are lying about their reasoning.
A bunch of them don't actually believe the rhetoric and projection, they just don't want to admit that they vote out of sexism, racism, classism, etc.

A month before the 2020 election Rand "FuckHead" Paul tweets a picture of himself standing in some sort of gun shop with the comment, "Just looking at all of the guns Biden will get rid of if he wins."
These people are stupid, and their elected leaders know this.
