It’s not strange at all, it’s a well known tactic in the tool box of narcissists - a tactic known as "mirroring" or "chameleonic" behavior. This is a manipulative strategy rooted in their lack of a stable, consistent identity. Instead of having a genuine self, they create a false persona based on external sources to gain acceptance and admiration.
He’s literally become an expert in every field known to man depending on what topic he wants to discuss, and he’s done it all his life so it’s second nature to just mirror the latest important person in front of him. It’s a result of wanting to manipulate, but also of low self esteem where he needs to feel more important and respected than he believes he is, thanks to shit parenting and mental illness (which as an adult he owns through his own choices as an elderly man who’s had time to work on it).
