Trumpist Mike Johnson ladies and gentlemen

New House Speaker Blamed School Shootings on Teaching Evolution and Abortion

NEWLY ELECTED HOUSE Speaker Mike Johnson is a hardcore Christian nationalist who has a history of spouting extreme right-wing views — including on mass shootings. The Louisiana Republican’s record on guns has come under scrutiny in the wake of a shooter killing at least 18 people in Maine on Wednesday, and in addition to opposing gun control legislation, the man who is now second in line for the presidency has blamed mass shootings on both teaching evolution and abortion.

Vile and ignorant. Frighteningly depraved people believe there must be a deity to deal out rewards and punishments in order for there to be "right and wrong."

EMPATHY doesn't come from religion and is vacant in right-wing policies.

If you only choose not to murder people because you believe an invisible sky daddy will send you to eternal fires, then you are a terrible person. As an atheist, this line of argument from Christians pisses me off. I do not kill people because I KNOW that killing another person is simply wrong. Lacking belief in a deity puts me in the position of knowing that another sentient life is the highest form that I encounter, therefore, the impact I leave on other humans matters. I don't commit murder, rape, theft, etc. because they're wrong and have horrible impacts on other people. I don't need the threat of potential punishment to be the reason why I don't do these things. If that is all that's stopping him, then we should be terrified of people like him.

Then again, most horrible acts of violence are committed by people of faith.

‘I’ve prayed for each of you': How Mike Johnson led a campaign of election denial

One day before a mob bludgeoned its way into the Capitol, Rep. Mike Johnson huddled with colleagues in a closed-door meeting about Congress’ task on Jan. 6, 2021.

A relatively junior House Republican at the time, Johnson was nevertheless the leading voice in support of a fateful position: that the GOP should rally around Donald Trump and object to counting electoral votes submitted by at least a handful of states won by Joe Biden.

Is it just me, or when someone says “I’ll pray for you.” Is that not the most condescending shit you’ve ever heard?

Like they say “ ain’t no hate like Christian love”

Johnson is one of those types that truly believes every single thing that happens in his life is ordained by God and part of some grand plan. Someone like Jordan you can tell it is at least in their mantra, even if they don't profess it on a daily basis.

But this philosophy is so engrained with him that he invokes it publicly in virtually everything he does. He is gone in his own beliefs.

“I believe that Scripture, the Bible, is very clear: that God is the one who raises up those in authority,” Johnson said in his first speech after being elected speaker in a 220-209 vote. “He raised up each of you. All of us.”

He said this in 2022:

“The founders wanted to protect the church from an encroaching state, not the other way around,”

When he was actively trying to overturn the election, he based it on "God's discernment." I could go on for pages of alarming examples.

All of this has largely gone under the radar for the past several years, and that needs to end.

Reporters need to ask him every. single. day. why he led the efforts into the objection of electors on the morning of Jan. 7, and why he led efforts to support the Texas lawsuit and amicus brief.

Why did he tirelessly try to disenfranchise 81,000,000 voters, protect a serial criminal and sexual abuser, and end Democracy in America?

Let him give all the divine evangelical justifications he wants. But keep asking him over and over again.

Trumpist Mike Johnson is the US House speaker. There’s plenty to fear

It’s Mike Johnson of Louisiana who, as one example of his profound unsuitability, brags that he doesn’t believe that human beings cause the climate crisis, though his home state has been ravaged by it. He is against abortion, voted against aid to Ukraine and stridently opposes LGBTQ+ rights.

Perhaps most notably, Johnson had a leading role in trying to overturn he 2020 election.

That means that the official second in line to the presidency “violated his oath to the constitution and tried to disenfranchise four states”, as the writer Marcy Wheeler neatly put it.

So abortion is so serious because this guy says we don't have enough people to work in our economy, but then he says we have a "border crisis" where people are coming here to work and they're stealing our jobs

Which is it?
