Free speech doesn't get you out of consequence of your speech

Donald Trump's Lawyers Say That False Statements Are Free Speech

Former President Donald Trump had a constitutional right to make false statements about the 2020 election, his lawyers have claimed in court.

In a written submission on Wednesday, they said that the federal election interference case against Trump is based on his alleged "lies" and that lies and false statements are protected under the First Amendment of the Constitution.

That isn't the basis of the case, though. Not one charge was brought on the basis of Trump's lies. Rather, Trump was charged because he took specific actions designed to result in January 6th, knowingly and with intent.

He can lie about it all he wants. Smith is very clear about that in the original indictment. That isn't what he's being charged over.

No matter how desperately Trump wants to frame it to the contrary, his charges have nothing to do with "free speech" nor is he being "politically persecuted" as he loves to claim.

This from the man that has just sued MSNBC, Reuters and 18 other news orgs for misreporting $73 Million Truth Social Losses (remember the losses are apparently only $31m).

Trump has sued people and organisations for defamation. A real free speech warrior over here.

Guilty verdicts are free speech too.

Trump struggles to get into holiday spirit with scathing Thanksgiving post

Donald Trump appears to be struggling to get into the holiday spirit and is far from feeling thankful – that’s if his latest Truth Social rants are anything to go by.

In the early hours of Thanksgiving morning, the former president took to his social media platform to launch the latest in a growing number of attacks on the judge and court clerk in his New York civil fraud trial.

I don't understand how people can keep up with all this bullshit and negativity.

Oh look it's your annual reminder to put crazy racist grandpa at the far end of the table.

How can someone read that and say to himself "I want that guy to be the president of my country"?

Donald Trump Rages at His Enemies in Furious Thanksgiving Message

Donald Trump went after his political enemies in a Thanksgiving message posted on Truth Social on Thursday.

The frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination is facing a civil fraud trial brought against him by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The $250 million lawsuit alleges Trump and executives at his company fraudulently inflated his wealth on his financial statements, which were used to secure loans and insurance. Judge Arthur Engoron is overseeing the trial and has already ruled the defendants had committed fraud. Allison Greenfield is Engoron's law clerk.

What a soft, steaming turd of a man.

Proud to say I am his enemy!

Just remember that if he gets back into the Presidency, project 2025 will be stripping out all of the institutional guard rails so they can weaponize the entire government and intelligence apparatus against their “domestic enemies”.

They will pass laws requiring social media companies to share everything they have with the NSA, FBI, and CIA so they can identify people like you as targets for arrest, to be sent to the gigantic prison camps they’re building.

Anyone who says, “Oh but those prison camps are just going to be used to put migrant families until they’re all deported, then those prison camps will be shut down” hasn’t done much digging into every other authoritarian dictatorship throughout history.

People need to vote like their lives depend on it, because if Trump gets back in, he’s telling us there won’t be a democracy anymore.
