Take the hint McCarthy

U.S. House adjourns without a speaker after GOP leader McCarthy loses sixth vote

WASHINGTON — The U.S. House of Representatives adjourned for a second night this week without electing a new speaker after GOP leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., failed in six consecutive votes to secure enough support to be elected to the post.

The House adjourned Wednesday night after breaking for several hours earlier in the evening to give Republicans more time to sway 20 of the party’s most conservative members that have been blocking McCarthy’s run for speaker. The House gaveled back in shortly after 8 p.m. ET only to quickly vote to adjourn until Thursday at noon.

Why doesn't he claim there was widespread cheating and he actually won??

Reminds me of 2017, when the GOP had a supermajority and didn't need a single blue vote to pass legislation in the House.

First order of business of that republican congress on day 1 was to hold a secret vote at 6 AM (no democrats invited) to dismantle the Congressional Ethics Committee, which they later voted to undo when word got out.

Later that year, the same congress couldn't pass a federal budget, leading to a federal government shutdown... which they blamed on democrats... who couldn't have obstructed the bill even if they tried... because the GOP supermajority

They’re going after the ethics committee again just FYI

The most absolutely hilarious thing about this is that McCarthy has desperately wanted to be Speaker for years. He tried to do it in 2015 too, until he realized that he didn't have the votes then either and so Paul Ryan was basically forced to accept the job against his will.

House sh**show has a message for America: GOP can't govern and doesn't want to

If anyone still labors under the impression that Donald Trump invented the shitshow that is the modern Republican Party, Tuesday's performance on Capitol Hill will have disabused them of that notion. It was déjà vu all over again, just like in 2015 when Kevin McCarthy was humiliated by far right bomb-throwers simply because he was so easy to humiliate, thus giving them leverage and pleasure in equal measure. Poor McCarthy spent the next seven years groveling and genuflecting to these extremists under the foolish impression that they would reward him for his fealty. As Salon's Rae Hodge lays out in detail, on Tuesday afternoon they simply laughed in his face and humiliated him again.

They never did want to govern.

Look at the last decade. Nothing Republicans have done in that time frame (and possible even further back) shows to anyone that they actually care about anything other than tax cuts for the wealthy.

They don't want to govern, they want to rule =/
